The kindergarten was part of the Dickson Children Centre, where only the children of DCC were taught. Since January 2011, most children attend primary school so we also opened the kindergarten to children from the area and have begun the process to register the kindergarten as Dickson Academy Nursery School.

Our vision is:

Offering Montessori based education, especially to poor and socially and emotionally damaged children, focusing on the overall development of the child. Many children of Dickson Children Centre have a learning disability, because there was no money to go to school or because mother lived on the streets, or because the child lived  in an environment where the wrong social and emotional damage has accumulated. Many schools in Kenya, however, are focusing on the academic performance of children.

Running behind in development than the child usually gets to deal with rejection and punishment. It is also possible that the child is not allowed to do exams, because the level of the school adversely affected.

At the Dickson Academy we not only academically oriented work with the children, but we want to give them social and emotional support.

For this we have social workers in the center. Because every child has different talents and gifts, we encourage the best in every child. This means that we not only academically oriented, but we also look at other talents like music, sports and drama. We also want to focus to Montessori teaching with the use of many materials.

We want the school to be open to children from different social backgrounds. The idea is for the better-off families pay full tuition and the disadvantaged families to the capacity of their income.

For those who are unable to pay the school fees, we want to give these children a chance to go to school through a sponsorship program, so they have  a future perspective. Besides education we also offer the children a meal.
